HMS Bounty Arrives at

Palm Beach Maritime Museum on Peanut Island

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA.  John C. Grant, chairman and founder of the Palm Beach Maritime Museum, in conjunction with Melbourne Smith, an icon and acclaimed builder of historic tall ships, including the Pride of Baltimore, Brig Niagara, and the Privateer Lynx, have arranged for a visit of the HMS Bounty to the museum’s dock at Peanut Island.  The Bounty is a replica of the British ship sailed to the South Pacific to gather breadfruit in 1789 resulting in a mutiny which became the story Mutiny on the Bounty.

 

 

HMS Bounty arrived at the entrance to Lake Worth Inlet at 10:00 AM EST, Saturday November 21, 2009.  A flotilla of welcoming vessels greeted her.

Tours of the ship are available Saturdays and Sundays, 10 am – 4 pm and Wednesdays through Fridays 10 am – 3 pm.  Adult tours are $9 and students are $5.  Combination tours of the Bounty, the former Coast Guard Station and the historic Kennedy Bunker are $15 for adults, $8 for students.  The Palm Beach Maritime Museum will offer a combination ferry to Peanut Island and tour of Bounty from the City of Riviera Beach marina for $17 (adults), $11 (students).  Other water taxis to Peanut Island are also available at various locations. Bounty is also available by reservation to host group events, both on board and at the adjacent Palm Beach Maritime Museum Coast Guard Boathouse.  She can accommodate up to 150 guests on board.  Please call 561-723-2028 for further information about hosting exclusive events, catered by C'est Si Bon Catering.

 

Bounty is expected to stay here until April 1, 2010, when she will proceed northward in company with the Privateer Lynx to participate in the Great Lakes United TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE during the summer of 2010.
